As a communication arts student with a recently chosen focus in event planning I knew that the best way to gain knowledge about the field was through experience. I was also ready to expand my horizons by traveling abroad, leading me to travel abroad for a whole semester and earn credit by working as an intern for the Italian company, The Tuscan Wedding. I’d had some part time jobs before, and one short-term internship in the States, but nothing could prepare me for the adventure that awaited me up in the hills of Tuscany.
My boss, Daniela Tripodi, was not only an excellent and dedicated employer; she was also an exceptional role model to learn about the industry. Even through the growing pains of learning a new position, she never stopped giving me chances to improve and skills and learn new ones. Through this internship I acquired invaluable knowledge about how to communicate with the clients and suppliers you are working with, what it means to develop efficient and precise organizational skills, how to manage my time and conduct myself in a professional setting rather than an academic one, and most importantly how to complete worthwhile work.
Whether it was a day in the office, or the day of the actual weddings, I was never bored or wishful to be anywhere but exactly where I was. Not only did this internship teach me great lessons, but it also lead me to priceless experiences. As a part of The Tuscan Wedding team, I travelled to the most beautiful Florentine villas and venues, and witnessed truly remarkable weddings. However just as adventurous, was all the behind the scenes work being done by the team to create the event. All the hours put into the details of the event, big and small, taught me so much about hard work and paying attention to detail and the needs of your clients.
Studying abroad stands out on your resume to employers; interning abroad will give you the competitive edge to excel professionally and personally. For students looking to gain these accolades, applying for an internship at The Tuscan Wedding is your first step on the road to success.
