A friendship, relationship, and marriage take two people to be successful. Similarly, the planning process of a wedding takes both the bride and groom to be successful. Although most of the times brides are the ones more in control of minute details, grooms can be just as involved in making their wedding day memorable. Here at The Tuscan Wedding we find our grooms to be just as involved as our brides. Grooms give us a fresh and new perspective on finalizing details and making crucial decisions. We’ve asked some of our grooms to help up write this article so that we can give other a grooms guide to getting married!
1) Hire A Wedding Planner: We can’t tell you how important this is—we even wrote an article previously about this topic. When a bride is having a panic attack or is feeling stressed, all the groom has to do is simply remind her that their wedding planner has everything under control. If a bride is feeling overwhelmed, it is important for her partner to reassure her that she doesn’t need to worry because the wedding planner will oversee any complications.
2) Plan Ahead: As a man thinking about proposing, you will probably have an idea in mind of when and how you want to pop the question. Nothing ruins a wedding proposal more than not having a ring! Looking for the perfect ring might take longer than you expect, so get a head start and pay a visit to some jewelry shops.
3) Show Interest: A bride’s special day is important to her, so it’s best that you treat her special day importantly from the very beginning. Yes, we mean the very beginning of all the planning from color scheme and date to location and party favors. Trust us that if your bride has a perfect wedding, you will have a perfect wedding.
4) Practice, Practice and Practice: You might not be a dancer, but it’s helpful to start practicing your dance in advance. You want to be comfortable dancing with your bride and establish a connection with each other. You might even come across a song you want to play on the day of your wedding.
5) Break It In: Nothing puts a damper on your fun and joyous wedding reception other than not being able to walk with uncomfortable shoes and blisters. Try your shoes on a couple days in advance a walk around the house with them on so that they are worn-in by the time you see your bride walking down the aisle. You will thank us once you finish dancing up a storm with your friends, family and wife.
6) Get Organized: When you and your fiancé are beginning to plan your wedding, having a serious talk and discuss things like your budget and create a to do list. List everything that you want accomplished and then see a wedding planner to help you fulfill all of your wishes. It would even be helpful to grab a wedding magazine that you and your bride can flip through for ideas so you can get a sense of what you want your wedding to look and feel like.
7) Insist On Choices: As a groom, you might not want o be very involved or active in planning the wedding—some grooms just look forward to actually being married and don’t have too much opinion on where or when it is. As a groom, you should insist on seeing your different options. Three main categories that you want to take time to research and decide on are the venue/location, food, and entertainment. These are components of your wedding that guests will remember the most so you and your bride should contemplate these topics before deciding.
8) Be Flexible: Your bride might have this fairytale wedding in mind that she’s been dreaming of since she was a young girl but you, as the groom, should help navigate the decisions as well. It’s your wedding just as much as hers so making decisions for your wedding is a compromise. Both you and your fiancé should be flexible and open to new ideas. Don’t get too attached to one idea because there are so amazing opportunities to make your wedding magical!
9) Communicate: This is key between you and your bride, you and your wedding planner, you and your guests, you and your vendors. Weddings can be difficult if a conversation is one-sided. This becomes increasingly necessary as your wedding day approaches. Take the time to give your wedding planner an update, follow up with your guests, confirm with your vendors, and share ideas with your future wife.
10) Be Honest: This comes into play for several reasons. If your bride is choosing something you really don’t want, just be kind and courteous while explaining how you feel. Bickering and arguing will not solve the problem, compromising will. If your vendor is pushing something on you, it is all right to tell them that you think their product or service is wonderful, just not for your and your bride. There is nothing wrong with saying no, just do it nicely. At the end of your wedding, everything should be exactly how you want it.
We hope that all of our grooms can find a piece of informative and help after reading this article. A groom is a key player in executing any wedding efficiently and successfully because without them, there is no wedding.
